Book Description
for Little Apple Goat by Caroline Jayne Church
From The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY)
Little Apple Goat’s favorite meal is fruit—apples, pears, cherries—what ever is available in the orchard. She eagerly anticipates her annual fall feast when ripe fruit drops to the ground. As she returns to the barn, she spits, then goes “Plippety, Plip! Plop!,” thus disbursing the seeds she has consumed. When a severe storm destroys her orchard, Little Apple Goat is bereft. Soon, however, new trees appear, but readers must infer the new orchard’s source. This simple tale of nature’s regenerative cycles will entrance readers with its lively palette of watercolors and strong black-line and collage art. lmp
