Book Description
for Annie's Chair by Deborah Niland
From The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY)
Annie loves her chair. It is her special place, and absolutely no one is allowed in it. When Annie discovers Benny, the family’s dog, napping there, she tries everything to get him out. Finally, she resorts to tears. “W-A-A A-A-A-AAAH!” (n.p.). Benny cries too, then leaps from the chair to give Annie a big cheer-up lick. Annie gives Benny a scolding about never sitting on her chair again, but she softens it by adding “. . . without me” (n.p.). The bold, brightly colored gouache and digital illustrations, featuring the round headed Annie and her plump, roly-poly pooch, are expressive and toddler pleasing. 2006 Winner of the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Children’s Book of the Year: Early Childhood. ca
