Book Descriptions
for Where's Jamela? by Niki Daly
From The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY)
Jamela’s mother tells her that she has a new job and that they are mov ing to a new house. A small girl’s fears of moving are captured as she thinks about all the things she loves about her old house. Lively colorful illustra tions, interspersed with text on each page, show Jamela, tired from all the fuss, climbing into “Jamela’s box” (n.p.). A double spread shows a joyful celebration when Jamela reappears while her “Gogo” plays the piano as the truck moves along. Jamela soon finds that there are things to like about her new home, which is “under the same old sky” (n.p.). Other books about Jamela include Jamela’s Dress (Farrar, Straus and Giroux 1999) and What’s Cooking, Jamela? (Farrar, Straus and Giroux 2001). hc
