It is the end of sixth grade for Macy and things are not going well. Her mother is getting married and their house is being sold. Now she will have a step-father and two step brothers. If things are not bad enough, then her mother asks her to help out her elderly next door neighbor Iris, but Iris does not know sign language and Macy is deaf. It seems Iris and Macy will never be able to communicate, but with persistence and friendship anything is possible
