The eggs hatch and seven ducklings go swimming. “Seven?” A turn of the page reveals the eighth duckling just emerging from its shell. “Adding Mama and Papa makes nine and ten.” In Summertime Rainbow , a family of rabbits finds green grass, yellow honeysuckle, a red peony, and a purple flower that turns out to be a butterfly. And that “spray of blossoms in the sky”? A rainbow! Yang’s conversational narrative is set against appealing illustrations that feature a predominance of softly curved shapes (the round-bottomed bunnies are particularly winsome) and colors that are bold but not too bright.
