Book Descriptions
for Half of an Elephant by Gusti
From The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY)
An elephant loses his back half when the world suddenly splits in two. He finds he is not alone, and he and other creatures search the world for their missing halves. After unsuccessful matching attempts, the elephant decides that living as a half might not be so bad. When the world magically becomes one again, the halves are reunited, but not quite in the same way as before. The imaginative animals are digital images constructed of corrugated card board, springs, paintbrushes, broken dishes, nuts, bolts, and other discarded objects. A modern love story told with humorous text, this book is a rare gem that speaks on many levels to the power of belonging and love. Gusti received an IBBY Honor List diploma for illustrations; Parenting Magazine Best Books of the Year. mjw, lvb
