for Beyond the Labyrinth by Gillian Rubinstein
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
An avid reader of Choose Your Own Adventure books, Brenton bases all his decisions on the throw of the dice. The arrival of an extraterrestrial anthropologist, a visit by his cousin Vicky, and the appearance of ominous graffiti messages all mark the onset of escalating events which eventually force Brenton to make momentous choices for the future. Set in contemporary Australia, the story effectively utilizes a fast pace and sense of impending disaster to intrigue readers of adventure and science fiction, while subtly exploring issues of racial prejudice across time and place.
