A delectable cumulative story begins with a child seeking ingredients for a birthday cake, gathering them, one by one, from an enchanting array of generous animal volunteers. After the eggs, flour, butter and milk, pinch of salt, sugar and cherries for the top are acquired by a helpful chicken, bear, cat, pig, dog and monkey, the whole cast sets out to make -- and eat! -- the cake in a playful birthday celebration.
