Book Descriptions
for My Baseball Book by Gail Gibbons
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
A very easy introduction to baseball briefly discusses the necessary equipment, the playing field, the positions, the object of the game, and how a game progresses with outs and innings. It then goes on to describe a game between the Robins and the Owls, both mixed-gender, multi-racial teams. Although Gibbons’ illustrations show children playing, the text is general enough to be applied easily to Major League play for readers whose main interest in the game is as a spectator sport. Other books by the author in this outstanding new series include: My Basketball Book ; My Football Book ; and My Soccer Book . . All four take the same approach to explaining specific sports for young enthusiasts. (Ages 3-8)
