Book Descriptions
for Orange Pear Apple Bear by Emily Gravett
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
From The United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY)
Dr. Seuss never created a book with only five words, but Emily Gravett manages it effortlessly. Orange Pear Apple Bear commences with a row of or anges, apples, and pears stretching from edge to edge of the front endpapers. Then, by repositioning words and using the distinct colors of each fruit, the bear (introduced in the title) transmogrifies into “orange bear” then “apple bear” and finally “pear bear.” Gravett’s characteristically straightforward wa tercolor cartooning provides a humorous introduction to color, shape, and food for toddlers. Going full circle, rinds and peels stretch from edge to edge on the final endpapers . lmp
