Book Description
for Welcome to the Cactus Hotel by Brenda Z. Guiberson and Megan Lloyd
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
Welcome to the Cactus Hotel! Let’s meet the guests. A Gila woodpecker is the first to arrive at the giant cactus in the Sonoran Desert. He tap tap taps a hole and moves right in. Owls, red-winged hawks, and white-winged doves soon join the succulent shelter. When the cactus flowers bloom, bats come for nectar and bees come to pollinate. The blooming flowers produce fruit that the hungry javelinas snuffle up from the ground. Like any satisfied guests, the numerous dwellers leave a great review by carrying seeds and pollen across the desert so future cactus hotels might grow. Realistic illustrations and lively text introduce young readers to a rich desert ecoregion.
